by paying extra attention to his or her moral, spiritual and socio-economic background.
The Chanka Maharaj El Socorro S.D.M.S. Hindu Primary School was named after the donor of the land, the late politician and wrestler, Mr. Chanka Maharaj. It is situated on Maraj Street, El Socorro Road, San Juan. The school was established in 1952 as one of the pioneer schools of the Sanatan Dharma Sabha with an enrolment of 208 pupils. The physical structure of the school has seen improvements when the old building gave way to a 2 storey building that now accommodates a complete computer room, a library, lunch room and spacious classrooms. The school has been and is still taking part in activities such as Baal Vikaas, Sports, Mental Math Competitions, Spelling Bee, Athletics, Red Cross, Chess, Football and Scouts. Currently, the school is undergoing a complete refurbishment of electricals. The school has embarked on a program of devices for all during this pandemic to facilitate online learning. This institution continues to thrive through its motto ‘Always Aim High’ to achieve its vision, mission and objectives together with a dedicated and committed staff, parents and those in the community.
School celebrated its 65th Anniversary on September 1st, 2017.
The pupils participated and excelled in a variety of extra- curricular activities and competitions.
In 2014, a student of Standard 4 placed 5th in the National Mental Math Competition.
In 2017, 2 students reached the Zonal semi-finals in Mental Math.
Several students have received prizes and hampers as Zonal winners from pennacool.com in reference to online competitions in Mathematics and Language Arts.
In 2019, 1 student was placed in the top 200 in the S.E.A Examination.

In 2014 1 student participated in National Games and qualified for 2 categories in the final round after participating in all 7 categories in the preliminaries.
In 2017, the school choir placed 2nd in the Gita Slokas category of the S.D.M.S. Baal Vikaas Festival.
The school also placed 4th in the S.D.M.S. National Sports in 2017 and placed 2nd in Marching.
In 2018, the school qualifying for Championship in the Baal Vikaas Competitions for the first time in 30 years, placing 1st in the Local Classical Singing category at the Finals among 23 schools, 4th in Bhajan Singing, 5th in Gita Slokas and Folk Song and 8th in Dance.
In 2019, the school qualifying for Championship in the Baal Vikaas Competitions for the second time in 31years, placing 3rd in Bhajan, 3rd in Dance, 5st in the Local Classical Singing, 5th in Folk Song and 9th in Gita Slokas. Overall championship placing 9th .
